The NECF Order 881 Working Group convenes regularly to support the implementation and compliance efforts related to FERC Order 881 and its follow-up, Order 881-A. These orders mandate the use of Ambient-Adjusted Ratings (AARs) for transmission lines to improve the accuracy, transparency, and efficiency of the U.S. electric grid.

The working groups serve as a collaborative forum where transmission providers, system operators, and other stakeholders:

     • Discuss implementation status of Order 881 across regions and entities.

     • Share best practices for calculating and applying AARs, including hourly updates and seasonal ratings.

     • Exchange ideas on technical solutions, operational impacts, and regulatory interpretations.

     • Address challenges related to protection system settings, data exchange protocols, and software readiness.
